Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive about the clinic and our therapies. For more information about the therapies we provide, visit the Treatments page.

What is osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a science, a way of learning about the body as a whole and complete entity. Osteopaths learn many different therapeutic techniques to aid healing. Osteopaths assess the body as a whole and tailor treatments to suit the individual. They give recovery advice, sometimes exercise or dietary advice.

For your osteopath appointment you will not be asked to remove any clothing except your shoes. Please wear clothing that enables a free range of movement. The easiest to work with is jogging bottoms or leggings and a t-shirt with no collar.

What is counselling?

Counselling is a talking therapy that allows you to deal with unresolved issues that are causing unwanted feelings of anxiety or stress. Our therapist will work with you to identify issues and find resolutions that suit you. She suggest ways of coping and give tools for dealing with stressful situations and tell you why your brain is behaving in the way that it is!

Sometimes just being able to talk to a non-judgemental person who knows nothing about you is all that is needed to help you cope with stressful situations.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis allows a person to achieve a trance like state in order for positive suggestions to be sent directly to the unconscious mind, which makes changes to behaviour much more likely to be accepted by the brain. Hypnotherapy is the use of hypnosis alongside counselling which can be a much more effective therapy for people with deep rooted or long-standing issues they want to recover from.

Hypnosis by itself is offered for fears and issues that need addressing, such as fear of flying, smoking cessation, bodily tics, obsessive disorders, anger management, anxiety, stress or any other habits that a person really wants to dispel.

Hypnotherapy is extremely useful for long term issues stemming from childhood or post traumatic stress (PTSD) issues where counselling is supplemented by hypnosis to enable the mind to move on from historical trauma.

What is reflexology?

It is a natural healing touch therapy based on the ten zones of energy principle. These zones run from the top of the head to the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Within these zones there are reflexes relating to all parts and organs of the body.

Using intermittent pressure with the finger and thumb, positive change is enabled. There is the possibility of reducing stress, tension and other disorders and illnesses. Improving blood circulation, encouraging the elimination of toxins and bringing the body into a natural state of balance with gentle touch.

Why do you only charge £40?

We want to be available to as many people as we can. We want our patients to be able to afford more than one treatment if that is necessary for their recovery. Our overheads are low (no credit card machine etc.) so we can keep our fee low.

There is a £2 administration fee for those claiming the cost of treatments through their medical insurance.

Can I get an appointment outside of clinic opening times?

The clinic is a single room with one couch, which means we can only accommodate one therapy at a time. Therefore we are unable to see clients for therapies outside of set clinic times. For details of opening times for each service offered, please see our Online Booking page.

Do you provide massage services?

While Osteopathy does use massage techniques our Osteopath does not provide a full massage service. We highly recommend Bideford Therapies for those seeking massage therapies.

Do you treat under 18’s?

Our services available to those under 18 years old are osteopathy, nutrition and diet advice and reflexology. We will ask for a parent or guardian to be present during the session.

Counselling and hypnotherapy is not available for anyone under 18 years of age at this clinic.
