What type of osteopathy do you do?
Shelley’s style of treatments fall within the muscle energy/neurological input style. Shelley prefers the gentle approach which can involve all forms of input including passive movement, bone and muscle alignment, soft and deep tissue work, neurological reset and visceral alignment.
Whilst most of Shelley’s skills in manual therapy were taught within her osteopathic qualification, there is no one treatment style that is exclusive to being called osteopathic.
What happens if I have to cancel or I do not attend my appointment?

* You wish to change the time or date of the booked appointment within 24 hours of the original appointment
These terms are subject to the discretion of the therapist at the time of cancellation.
Where did you train?
Shelley trained at the European School of Osteopathy, Maidstone, Kent, England. Her initial 2 years were spent at the Boxley site with the final 2 years working within the clinic on Tonbridge Road in Maidstone.
Jayne trained with the Open University for her Psychology degree and then with online training providers for all of the other certificates she holds.
What are your qualifications?
Shelley – Integrated Masters degree in Osteopathy awarded by the University of Greenwich in 2017. Advanced Diploma in Nutrition and Weight Management awarded by the Royal Society for Public Health in 2020.
Jayne – Honours degree in Psychology awarded by the Open University in 2010.
Do I have to get undressed to be treated by the Osteopath?
No. Whilst most osteopaths require patients to remove clothing to the underwear in order to be treated, Shelley does not. Shelley is aware that undressing can cause a degree of discomfort for the patient which is not necessary in order that they be treated effectively.
Some clothing however can be a hindrance and not allow appropriate movement (or dignity) when treatment is performed. It is therefore recommended that patients wear comfortable loose fitting garments such as leggings or jogging bottoms and avoid restrictive clothing such as jeans and heavy belts.
I have a medical condition, will this affect my treatment?
For Osteopathy: A full case history is taken before treatment is performed. There are some types of treatment that may not benefit some conditions and there are some that are perfect. Shelley is versed in many different treatments styles to reach the same goal so it is likely (unless there is a significant medical condition) that a treatment can be found to suit every individual.
For other treatments: A case history will be taken and relevant questions will require honest answers from Jayne’s clients. There are some conditions that may not be suitable for treatments such as:
Counselling: Severe psychological disorders such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Hypnotherapy: Diagnosed personality disorder, under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including prescribed anti-psychotic medication).
Reflexology: Pregnant women in 1st trimester, people with cancer (unless approved by GP), people with a fever.
Does Osteopathy hurt?
Shelley’s treatment style is not designed to hurt and as the patient is in complete control, at any time if pain is an issue treatment should be tailored around this. Unfortunately, some testing may cause discomfort but these tests will be fully explained prior to receipt of consent to the patient before they are performed.
Can you give telephone advice?
Not for pain issues. A body will need to be seen to enable the right advice to be given. Dietary advice can be given to existing patients over the telephone as part of the support provided. All patients must be medically reviewed before advice can be provided.
How can counselling help me?
Counsellors are trained to work with you to identify your issues and help you find ways to deal with them. Jayne will:
- Actively listen
- Hold no judgement
- Maintain strictest privacy
- Help you find emotional balance
Counselling helps by finding ways of talking through your issues, finding the route of problems and then finding the right tools to help you manage your life. One size does not fit all and Jayne will find what is right for you by discussing options with you.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Literally hypnosis-therapy. It is a technique that allows the unconscious mind to be directly engaged in order to affect change within a state of every day life. These changes could be many things such as:
- Habits or addictions (eating, smoking etc)
- Trauma recovery
- Obsessive compulsive disorders
- Irrational fears or anxieties
- Improving confidence or life performance
Therapy involves talking techniques to allow the client to get into a deep state of relaxation and then specific scripts or stories which penetrate the subconscious mind and allow the change to begin.
What is Reflexology
It is a natural healing touch therapy based on the principle that ten zones of energy exist which run from the top of the head to the soles of the feet and palms of the hands. Within these zones there are reflexes relating to all parts and organs of the body. By using a technique of intermittent pressure with the finger and thumb, there is the possibility of reducing stress, tension and other disorders and illnesses, improving blood circulation, encouraging the elimination of toxins and bringing the body into a natural state of balance and harmony.
